Between the three days I was shooting Sukh & Greg’s wedding, it was one of the longest coverages I’ve done in awhile. It was also one of the most enjoyable weddings I’ve gotten to shoot in recent memory – the kind of wedding where you don’t even notice the time passing as you’re too busy enjoying being a part of it. As always, East Indian weddings are a visual treat as a photographer. The extravaganza of colours, outfits, food, and activities offer so many interesting picture opportunities, and this wedding certainly didn’t disappoint.
Having worked previously with Sukh’s family, it was nice to see and connect with familiar faces. I like to blend into the flow and surroundings of a wedding when I’m shooting, and it definitely makes it easier when you already feel comfortable and familiar with the people. Sukh and Greg and their wedding party were great this way too. Despite the whirlwind and bustle that can accompany East Indian weddings, they were among the most relaxed and easy-going groups I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Lots of great pictures and lots of fun shooting. Congratulations Sukh & Greg!

Loving owner of her dog. Big-time Bomber fan. 2009 grad. Valedictorian of her class. It was really great going around town and trying to create images that capture these moments of her life right now. Congratulations Kristin!

It’s been a busy couple of weeks of shooting. To start things off, here are some pics from an engagement session with Nunziata & Chris. The forecast looked daunting at first, but it turned out to be a lovely evening to be out at Assiniboine Park – a bit of a breeze to keep the mosquitoes at bay, Vinny the puppy to liven things up, and a whole pile of joggers to keep us company. And for first time “posers” in front of the camera, I thought they did just dandy:

It’s always a treat to shoot in new places, especially when it involves a road trip. Last weekend I had the privilege to head out to Foam Lake, Saskatchewan and shoot Sarah and Kevin’s wedding. Though it was my first time meeting them face to face, they were great to work with and didn’t flinch in the face of taking pictures on a chilly and breezy June Saturday. A beautiful yard, a wonderfully derelict car, a chance to shoot from a forklift, long country roads… I hope you had as much fun as I did! Congratulations Sarah & Kevin!

After a whirlwind road trip out to Saskatchewan for a wedding, Katrina and I raced back to Winnipeg to shoot the season 2 finale of the Artist Next Door series at the Neighborhood Cafe in the Wolseley community. This happy little cafe, whose walls are filled with what seems like a million paperbacks, was packed with people who came out to see performances by local fiddling sensation Sierra Noble (www.sierranoble.ca) and Brazillian guitarist Marco Castillo. The concert also included performances by Taiko drummer Phoebe Mann, hand drummer Brian Cloud, percussionist Scott Senior, and presentations by artist Diana Thorneycroft and poet Jan Guenther Braun.
It being a packed house, it was super warm and really tight for space, making it a bit of a challenge for shooting. That said, it’s always nice to work while listening to good music.
