The wedding of Nunziata and Chris will be another Italian wedding of which I will have very fond memories. They were surrounded all day long by tons of warm and supporting family members and friends, which makes it so easy to capture great, natural shots of people interacting with each other. The meal at the reception was also one to remember, although I unfortunately didn’t pace myself well enough to save room for dessert. Despite the lack of snow on the ground as Nunziata had hoped, the wedding still definitely had a wintery and festive feel to it and we were still able to get lots of great shots at the Millennium Centre and the Legislative Building. Ellie is another little girl who I’ve had the pleasure of photographing every year since she was a little wee one (she’s the one blowing the dandelion with her dad in the rotating pictures at the top of this blog). Her grandparents live just down the street from us on the river, so we took advantage of a beautiful autumn morning and the fabulous field in their back yard to take the family’s pictures this year. This time Ellie’s brother Eric was able to make the shoot and, between the two of them, it was non-stop shenanigans in the leaves and the tall grass. It’s always so interesting to watch the progression of these babies and toddlers as they develop into little people – the first time I took Ellie’s picture, she was still on all fours and had just this little tuft of hair. Now, armed with a full head of curly locks, she was inviting me for tea and biscuits along the river bank. I can’t wait to see what she and Eric are like next year!
Taylor came into the studio with her parents just shortly before Hallowe’en for a family portrait session. A little shy at first, Taylor didn’t take long to come out of her shell – definitely one of the most expressive and playful little people I’ve had in the studio, she bounded around barefoot in her little winged costume, taking turns cavorting with Julie & Kelcey and flashing the occasional sparkly-eyed grin at the camera. Tara and Karl are another one of the great couples who I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years – first for their wedding, then as part of the wedding party in her brother’s wedding, and now documenting their beautiful little daughter Hannah as she grows up. We met at Fraser’s Grove Park on a lovely fall evening. Hannah wouldn’t remember me from her baby shoots and wasn’t quite sure what to make of me at first. But it wasn’t long before she decided that my camera and I were alright, and after that she got right down to business and started doing what any sensible toddler would do: check out the play structure and tear around the park. We probably spent a good two hours climbing the structure, going for wagon rides, throwing leaves, finding sticks, and doing yoga, everyone pretty much enjoying being outside on a fine autumn evening. Hannah is soooo cute and smart as a button – I can’t wait to see what she’s like next year! Some of my faves:
It’s been a busier than expected fall so I’m a bit behind in keeping the blog up to date. Thankfully it’s been a pretty nice autumn so far and being busy has meant that I’ve had the chance to take some nice fall pics. One of the first fall sessions was with Della and Phil for their engagement portrait session. Through the course of their recent travels outside of the city, they had come across this great little parcel of land out in Blumenort. With the owner’s permission, we spent a lovely Sunday afternoon wandering through woods, fields, an old farmstead, an old manger, and amongst some retired heavy machinery. I was like a kid in a candy store with all the colours and environments to work with, and Phil even brought his guitar along to boot. A very pleasant way to spend a fall Sunday afternoon.
