Family portraits – Reena, Gurdeep, Bandhna, and Gurkirat

When I spoke with Reena on the morning of the shoot, she apologized ahead of time for the so-called “chaos” in her house.  I told her as a parent of two kids myself, that I fully understood and not to worry.  So as I arrived with expectations of shooting in a house with little kids, I was both surprised and dismayed:  pleasantly surprised in that the household was perfectly tidy and calm; dismayed to think of what Reena would consider my own home which, despite having  two much older children, was probably a thousand times messier and more chaotic.

Even though the focus of the shoot was to be on her little newborn sister, little Bandhna was very keen to steal the show.  Though she started off quite shy of the camera, a few stories and a couple of games of blocks soon had Bandhna prancing about the living room and playing with my umbrellas.  Gurkirat took a little more work to get to smile, but Gurdeep seemed to have the touch that day as she certainly enjoyed hanging around with her daddy.  Some nice light and nice colours in their living room – here’s a handful from the session:

Engagement Session – Liza & Darwin

Have I mentioned that I love shooting in new places?  I was pretty excited when Liza and Darwin first mentioned the possibility of using Sisler High School as the venue for their engagement photos.  To my delight, Darwin (being an old Sisler alumnus) managed to get us in there one weekend.  For one thing, although it was a bright and blue Winnipeg winter day, it was about -30 billion with the wind chill and I was certainly grateful to be working indoors!  And all of the great backdrops in there – the old gym/theatre full of desks lined up for exams, the lockers, the murals, the big new gym…  I was a kid in a candy store as Darwin showed us around his old haunt and recounted stories of streaking students and cafeteria shenanigans.  Despite having graduated from the rival Maples Collegiate, Liza was more than gracious in being a Spartan for the day.  Some fun and favorite shots from the day:
