Here’s a fun little session with Chris and Marlese and their three little ones out at the park one bright and sunny morning. I remember when Marlese and I used to chase after all the little ones in the nursery at church, and now here she was now chasing after her own little ragamuffins – all of them bright blonde and full of zing! I’m impressed with how well she and Chris can keep up with them. Little Norah was just a gem – a real character in front of the lens.

Shooting the U of M Class of 2011 Dentistry Graduation celebration was a unique experience. I’m used to shooting a wedding ceremony before arriving at a reception, so at first I felt like I’d arrived half-way through and had forgotten to shoot a ceremony. That said, it didn’t take long to get into the flow of things, especially with the evening going as smoothly as it did – from the program, to the speeches and slideshows, to the details, to the supper – a really nice celebration and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
There were a number of surprises for me that night. First, for a class of about 30 students, I was amazed at how big an event it was – the ballroom at the Fort Garry Place was packed. And then there were the familiar faces – Reena whose wedding is coming up, Dr. Lekic who was the faculty advisor to the class and father to one of my previous grooms, and Mayling my hairdresser and cousin to one of the grads. Another notable for me was the well-stocked candy bar – I was wondering if it was all sugar-free, or whether this was a strategic way to recruit new clients right off the bat! All in all it was an enjoyable shoot for me, especially all the fun shots at the photobooth. A handful from the evening:

It’s one of my favorite places to shoot, with its many different backdrops and spaces to use. Once again, however, as I pulled up to meet Anupa and Vishal and was greeted with throngs of people and booming live music, it occurred to me that I should check out what’s happening at the Forks before just plopping down for a shoot! That said, it was a beautiful sunny day (rather a treat given their rarity this spring) and we managed to slip between most of the crowds and events to get our shots in. And with their fun and effortless interaction with each other, Anupa and Vishal made it easy to catch some great shots.

I was glad when Reena and Satnam agreed to go to the McKay Courtyard for their engagement session. First, Meiji was the first sushi joint I went to in town and I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere there. The great feel of the place extends into the courtyard – a funky little space between two old buildings that has now been covered over with a glass roof.
Reena and Satnam were great to work with and very accommodating, despite my fussing around the place with my light on a stick. Satnam was apparently a little apprehensive about the pictures, but I thought he did just fine in front of the camera – I hope he (they) think the pictures were worth the effort! We capped off the shoot with a quick stop into the Via station – a great little session. Here’s a handful from the shoot:

Once again I had the privilege of working with Tara, Karl, and little Hannah – who was now the ripe old age of three. From her love of Rapunzel, to her own flowing locks, to her little rabbit, to the stylish little sandals – Hannah is clearly enjoying her stage of life as a little princess. Always vibrant and full of smiles and affection, she had no trouble working her magic in the studio and then merrily trotted around the Exchange as we wandered about snapping more photos. Great seeing you three again and always a pleasure! A handful from the session:
