Part of the fun of moving into a new house is discovering what comes up in your garden in the spring! We have a TON of garden and growing space – it’s probably going to take us years to fill it out. In the meantime, here are a few of the things that have started popping out around our house.

An unexpected guest

I knew the dining room needed sweeping, but when I saw this out of the corner of my eye, I knew it was either one heck of a dust bunny or some far out bug. After the kids got over their initial surprise, chagrin, and creepy-crawlies, they helped me take some shots and even did some online sleuthing to identify our little friend as a spruce sawyer – apparently a fairly common insect in this neck of the woods. Its antennae are really cool in a freaky sort of way…

Chemistry

We’ve always had a soft spot for using colored liquids as decorations in our house. The old reagent bottles just helped add to the whole chemistry feel. Maybe next time I’ll add some dry ice and bubbles to the shot, although fitting all that gadgetry and props into our little reading room where this was shot would be a little difficult…

This is Sophie – the new bright-eyed daughter of my good friend Lise. She definitely has mom’s eyes. It was great to meet her at last and catch up with another old friend.
