Married – Jennifer and Jessie

Still catching up on my fall work, here are some pics from Jennifer and Jessie’s wedding.  Having shot her sister Patti’s wedding the previous winter, Jen offered the challenge of wanting a unique look for her wedding photos.  I decided to lean more than usual toward the photojournalistic side of shooting, and went for a fairly stylized look in processing the photos.

One aspect I particularly enjoyed was being able to spend a lot of time at locations that were meaningful to the couple: Jen’s parents’ house, the couple’s new apartment, and Bergmann’s restaurant where Jen has worked for a number of years.  And while I aimed for “different”, one of my favorite photos from Patti & Graham’s wedding was the shot of the snow falling, so I couldn’t help but try to recreate that shot in a seasonally appropriate setting.

Once again, it was great working with Jen’s family and thanks go out for their patience in waiting for the pictures!

Family – Sarah, Jon, & Sylvie

Still catching up on some of my fall work, here is a portrait session I shot of little Sylvie and her parents Sarah and Jon.  I’m more accustomed to seeing Jon and Sarah on a frisbee field in cleats and shorts, so it was a little different hanging out with them in their civvies.  A fun session down at the riverbanks of the Red by their house, with Sylvie in constant motion through the tall grasses and play structures, and their dog Bella getting right up and personal with the river.

Engagement portraits – Stephanie & Dale

With the autumn season moving along, often times the challenge is to fit in a shoot before you run out of daylight.  With Stephanie & Dale’s engagement portraits, we decided to embrace the early evening and try out some cool sunset shots.  Even with a stiff breeze, a quickly darkening sky, and a warm supper waiting for them at their family’s place, Steph and Dale were more than game and were wonderfully patient as I slopped through mud puddles and fiddled with my gear in the dark.  Some faves from the session:

Fall portraits – Jared and Tasha

When Jared inquired about shooting a portrait session with Tasha in the fall colours, it seemed like a fine and straightforward idea to me.  What he didn’t mention, to either myself or to Tasha, was that it was going to be a surprise present for her birthday.  So it was a bit of a comical start as I arrived at the Witch’s Hut at Kildonan Park and introduced myself to the couple, who were sitting on a bench and peacefully watching the ducks in the pond.  After a few minutes of polite conversation, I started wondering “Why does Tasha keep looking at me like I’m a crazy stranger with lots of camera gear?”, and here was Tasha wondering “Why does this guy with all these cameras keep hanging around?”.

At last Jared filled in the blanks for both of us and everything went smoothly from there.  Considering Tasha wasn’t expecting to be photographed, and that Jared apparently doesn’t like having his picture taken, I thought they were super comfortable and easy to work with in front of the camera.  A really fun shoot with lots of picturesque moments – happy birthday Tasha!

Fall weddings – Christina and Luke

Big. Blue. Sky. It was hard not to be enamored with it at Christina and Luke’s wedding.  Not a cloud in sight on this bright, blustery fall day and the landscape that we had to work with was fabulous – fields all around, ceremony on the beach, a bridge across the lake, and a great big hill with crosses at the top.  I’d never been out to the Winkler Bible Camp before, but I was like a kid in a candy store with all the light and the scenery.  Best of all, Luke and Christina were just so excited to be together that it made for tons of great photo ops of the two of them.  Some faves from the session:
