Engaged – Anupa & Vishal

It’s one of my favorite places to shoot, with its many different backdrops and spaces to use. Once again, however, as I pulled up to meet Anupa and Vishal and was greeted with throngs of people and booming live music, it occurred to me that I should check out what’s happening at the Forks before just plopping down for a shoot! That said, it was a beautiful sunny day (rather a treat given their rarity this spring) and we managed to slip between most of the crowds and events to get our shots in. And with their fun and effortless interaction with each other, Anupa and Vishal made it easy to catch some great shots.

Engaged – Reena & Satnam

I was glad when Reena and Satnam agreed to go to the McKay Courtyard for their engagement session.  First, Meiji was the first sushi joint I went to in town and I’ve always enjoyed the atmosphere there.  The great feel of the place extends into the courtyard – a funky little space between two old buildings that has now been covered over with a glass roof.

Reena and Satnam were great to work with and very accommodating, despite my fussing around the place with my light on a stick. Satnam was apparently a little apprehensive about the pictures, but I thought he did just fine in front of the camera – I hope he (they) think the pictures were worth the effort!  We capped off the shoot with a quick stop into the Via station – a great little session.  Here’s a handful from the shoot:

Married – Jennifer and Jessie

Still catching up on my fall work, here are some pics from Jennifer and Jessie’s wedding.  Having shot her sister Patti’s wedding the previous winter, Jen offered the challenge of wanting a unique look for her wedding photos.  I decided to lean more than usual toward the photojournalistic side of shooting, and went for a fairly stylized look in processing the photos.

One aspect I particularly enjoyed was being able to spend a lot of time at locations that were meaningful to the couple: Jen’s parents’ house, the couple’s new apartment, and Bergmann’s restaurant where Jen has worked for a number of years.  And while I aimed for “different”, one of my favorite photos from Patti & Graham’s wedding was the shot of the snow falling, so I couldn’t help but try to recreate that shot in a seasonally appropriate setting.

Once again, it was great working with Jen’s family and thanks go out for their patience in waiting for the pictures!

Fall wedding – Cheryl & Arni

Cheryl and Arni’s wedding offered so many interesting contrasts.  Cheryl comes from Filipino descent; Arni’s family hails from Iceland.  Cheryl has a fine eye for art and design; Arni likes long-boarding.  Cheryl was cool and calm and as easy-going a bride as there ever was; Arni radiated excitement.  Both have great smiles.

Just a terrific wedding to shoot: lots of great backdrops ranging from their great little house to the King’s Head pub, lots of opportunities to capture Cheryl’s natural elegance and Arni’s natural exuberance, and getting to shoot the groomsmen on their longboards to boot.  Some faves from the wedding:

Fall weddings – Diana & Neil

Glasses.  Whether it was their own designer frames or their too-cool aviators, I thought the glasses really stood out at Diana and Neil’s wedding.  It was another tremendous fall day, and even though the chilly wind may not have agreed with the bridesmaids in their dresses, I think the autumn colours we got in some of the shots will be more than worth it.  Diana and Neil really set the tone for the wedding with their relaxed and fun approach to the whole day – a really pleasant and enjoyable wedding to shoot.  Some of my favorites from the day:
